When it comes to safety, several Mazda models have been making waves recently. Just last month we shared that the 2019 Mazda3 had been named a Top Safety Pick by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS). Today, we’re thrilled to announce that the 2019 Mazda6 has joined the ranks of Top Safety Picks as well!

Vehicles named Top Safety Picks are only selected after a series of intense crash tests and evaluations of their safety features. To qualify for Top Safety Pick status, the 2019 Mazda6 had to get a “good” rating – the highest possible rating – in five crash tests: moderate overlap front, driver-side small overlap front, roof strength, side, and head restraint. And that was just the start. Top Safety Picks must also achieve a good or acceptable rating in a passenger-side small overlap front test, and the 2019 Mazda6 achieved its sixth “good” rating in this test. Lastly, the front crash prevention system and headlights must earn one of the top two ratings for a vehicle to be named a Top Safety Pick.

Thanks to its outstanding performance in the crashworthiness tests and the quality of the i-ACTIVSENSE® safety features that make up the front crash prevention system, the 2019 Mazda6 passed the tests with flying colors. It joins the 2019 Mazda3, 2019 Mazda CX-3, 2019 Mazda CX-5, and 2019 Mazda CX-9 in the ranks of new Mazda models honored by IIHS. Jeff Guyton, president of Mazda, explained the company’s dedication to safety, saying, “Taking an active approach to safety gives the driver more peace of mind, which makes driving more fun.”
